Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams, each typically consisting of eleven players. The primary objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net. The sport is predominantly played on a rectangular field, known as a pitch, with goals at either end. Players mainly use their feet to maneuver the ball, but they may also use other parts of their bodies except for the arms and hands, with the exception of goalkeepers, who can handle the ball within their penalty area.

Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, maintained by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). It is one of the most popular sports globally, with professional leagues and international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, drawing immense viewership and fan engagement. There are various forms and variations of football, such as association football (commonly referred to as soccer in some countries), American football, and Australian rules football, each with its own specific rules and gameplay. However, when people refer to “football” in most parts of the world, they are typically talking about association football.
